Why is it that nearly every active woman I know is constantly on the quest for the perfect sports bra? And why is it that many of us end up with a squished uni-boob or jimmy-rigging some kind of support contraption anyway?
I thought about this yesterday when I was getting ready for a quick run -- and prepare yourselves, I am going to over-share in 3...2...1 -- and I wiggled into my new favorite combination of heart-rate monitor sports bra over my regular underwire bra. I don't love layering up, especially for a summer workout, but I am happy to have the support I need without looking like I am carrying a cat in my microfiber tank top.
Sure, I'd love to get my hands on the elusive, powerhouse sports bra. I'd especially love it if one that could handle what I have to put in it cost less than $75 and didn't look like something my grandmother wore in 1977. Perhaps that makes me sound too picky, but I think that is balanced out by my inevitable willingness to wear multiple bras for a 20-minute run through the neighborhood.
I know a lot of women who layer up their sports bras. Most of them have only confessed to wearing two at a time. However, I did have a large-chested friend who had no problem sharing her three-bra formula for safe and supported workouts. Three bras! Unrolling and getting them over her head probably took her longer than her entire Jazzercise class.
Have you found the perfect sports bra for your body? If so, do share the powerhouse that's keeping you together.
And if not, how many sports bra layers are holding you up, in, and relatively bounce-free while you exercise?
